The Shepton Mallet parish records state John as being baptised at the age of 16 in the same month as his siblings.

John is the Father of Joseph Hyat B. 1690, as listed on Baptism record 19/04/1690 @ St. Mary the Virgin, Croscombe, Somerset.

This BAPTISM seems to vaguely fit but may DISPROVE links to the John Hyat said to have been born on 5 December 1674 in Somersetshire, England, who arrived in Pennsylvania America in 1699, to found the Hiett line there.

In Joseph Besse's "ACollection of the Sufferings of the people called Quaker", it mentions a John Hyott of Shipton-Mallett, England, who was taken prisoner in Somersetshire in 1686, at a time when the Quakers were most severely persecuted for their religious beliefs. No further record of this John Hyott has been found. It is possible that this John Hyott of Shipton-Mallett is identical with the John Hiett who appears in Pennsylvania around 1699

from "The Visitation of the County of Gloucester 1682 to 1683 by Fenwick, page 96.
It appears that John Hiett probably came to America with William Penn on his second trip to America. Penn's second voyage to Pennsylvainia was in the fall of 1699, and john Hiett seems to have arrived at about the same time, for it was early that following year that he purchased three hundred acres of land in Bucks County, Pennsylvania for three hundred fifty pounds "current silver money." This can be found in Deed Book 3, page 27, Doylestown, the county seat of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

The only other local close reference (discounted) for this John Hyat appears in the St Mary the Virgin, Stogumber, Somerset, Baptism records:
