In 1851 Charles was a Pupil at a private School, Clewer House, Clewer, Berkshire. Charles left for Africa July 1859, just after he married Ellen, possibly on his own. He was heavily in debt at the time to his Wife's Father, George Russell. He arrived at Algoa Bay (Now Port Elizabeth), South Africa, Late 1859. Nothing more is known other than that by 1881 he appears to be back living at 5 Palace rd. London, with his widowed son in law Alfred Ashton and his Grandchildren by Mary. In his Wife's Fathers will his debt was dissolved and he was bequeathed enough to return to England.
