He lived in Leigh's Green, Corsley, Wiltshire and worked as a sawyer, however in the 1851 census he is recorded as a blind pauper with his second wife, Mary. It is believed that he did not have children by his second wife. He married firstly to HANNAH b: 1771 in England. Benjamin and Hannah had the following children: Mary PRANGLEY b: ABT 5 MAY 1799 in Corsley, Wiltshire, England Elizabeth PRANGLEY b: ABT 24 JAN 1802 in Corsley, Wiltshire, England Hannah PRANGLEY b: ABT 27 JUL 1806 in Corsley, Wiltshire, England. It is strongly believed that this is the Hannah Prangley who married Benjamin HYATT b: 1808 in Corsley, Wiltshire, England. They lived in Leigh's Green, Corsley next door to Benjamin and Hannah Prangley. The 1861 census shows her living next to James and Amelia Prangley, who are residing at Corsley Wood. Hannah and Benjamin had the following children: Elizabeth HYATT b: 1837 in Corlsey, Wiltshire, England Mary HYATT b: 1840 in Corlsey, Wiltshire, England William HYATT b: 1843 in Corlsey, Wiltshire, England Sarah HYATT b: 1846 in Corlsey, Wiltshire, England Hannah HYATT b: 1849 in Corlsey, Wiltshire, England The IGI shows the following child born to Benjamin and Martha Prangley. As no other contemporary Benjamin Prangley is known it is presumed to be the same Benjamin. However the daughter couldn't be from another marriage as it is known that Benjamin's first wife Hannah Prangley was still alive in 1809. Thus it is presumed that the mother shown as "Martha" could be a scribal error substituting the daughter's name, or Martha could be a mistress and the following child illegitimate. Or it could be a different Benjamin altogether, but no such person is known. I presently prefer the first theory. In the 1851 Census they lived at Greenhill Rents, Smithfield with some of their children and Joseph helpfully gave his place of birth as "City of London". I have searched many of the more obvious parishes for his baptism in about 1805, including St. Andrews by the Wardrobe, with no luck. Phillipa gave her place of birth as Kensington in about 1811. (A bit young for a 1827 marriage?) However, I also think this may be some kind of enumerator error for Kennington, as the children in this family were born in either Kennington or Holborn. ********************************* 26 Oct 1803 Crime Location: Shoreditch Original Text: 733. SARAH DANCER was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 22d of October, sixteen pieces of welting leather, value 12s. the property of Charles Hyatt, privately in his shop . CHARLES HYATT sworn. - I am a leather-cutter, No. 183, Shoreditch: On the evening of the 22d of October, about nine o'clock at night, the prisoner, n company with another woman, came into my shop to purchase some leather; I sent her into the cellar with a little girl, and a candle to light her, to look out what she wanted; I went into the cellar with another customer myself; she stopped in the cellar with the little girl about two minutes; I was at the other end of the cellar, and told the little girl to light her up; when she came into the shop, she told the woman with whom she came in, that she wanted to go out to speak to a closer or binder-woman; she told the woman to wait, she would be in again in a minute; when I came up, she had just returned, she looked out some leather in the shop, had it weighed, and paid for it; she went away; about a quarter of an hour after, I missed a bundle containing sixteen pieces of welting leather, I suspected the prisoner had got it; I instantly enquired where she lived, went to the watch-house, and laid an information, the officer of the night went with me to the house; I told her, I had missed a bundle of leather, and suspected she had it; she said, she knew nothing of it; I saw some leather lying upon the floor, just behind her, I instantly went to it, and found it was the property I had missed; the officer then took her into custody; she had been a customer about a fortnight. Cross-examined by Mr. Alley. Q. I believe this poor woman has a husband who is a maniac? - A. She has a husband who is deranged, and two children. (The officer produced the leather, which was identified by the prosecutor). Mr. Alley. Q. This leather was not in your shop, but in the cellar? - A. No, it was not exposed for sale. Court. Q. Is your cellar a part of your shop? - A. We consider it so, because we keep in it articles for sale as well as articles not for sale; this leather is not manufactured, it is not in a saleable condition. ************************* William George Hyatt GD004800 Contact Contributor Born 16 Jan 1897 Christened 14 Feb 1897 at St Ignatius R C Church, Green St, Sunbury On Thames Died 1958 at Redhill, Surrey and Buried at Redstone Cemetery, Redhill, Surrey on 1958 Father: George Hyatt Mother: Mary Driscoll Married Edith Grace Frost on at Children Irene Rosetta Hyatt - Occupation: Night watchman at monotype, salfords ********************* U.S. In 1726 Seth inherited from his father, Charles Hyatt, his plantation called Tewksbury. He became a minister in the Baptist Church, after having gone through a sincere conversion under the influence of J. Hyatt's preaching. During the last twenty-six years of his life he labored in Horsham, Sussex, where he died November 13, 1874. Edward Mote wrote upwards of 100 hymns, which were printed in his Hymns of Praise, mentioned above. [Dahle, Library of Christian Hymns] MOTE, Edward (1797-1874), was born in London on January 27, 1797. As a youth he went astray, but was converted in 1813 under the preaching of the Rev. J. Hyatt. Thereupon he joined the congregation of the Rev. Alex Fletcher. Two years later he joined the Baptist Church. For some years he plied the trade of a cabinetmaker, spending some of his spare time writing for the press. At the age of fifty-five he entered the Baptist ministry. From 1852 until his death on November 13 1874, he was pastor of the Baptist Church at Horsham, Essex. He published Hymns of Praise, London, 1836, which contained about 100 of his own compositions. Benson calls this publication an anthology of Calvinistic praise. [Handbook to the Lutheran Hymnal] ***** Mote, Edward, an English Baptist minister, was born in London January 21, 1797. He went astray, he tells us, from his youth, but was happily converted in 1813 under the preaching of the Rev. J. Hyatt, one of Lady Huntingdon's preachers, and joined the Church of which Rev. Alexander Fletcher was pastor, but two years later united with the Baptist Church. He engaged in business as a cabinetmaker for some years, but employed part of his time writing for the press, and at length entered the ministry. From 1852 until his death, November 13, 1874, he was pastor of the Baptist Church at Horsham, Essex. Mr. Mote was the editor of Hymns of Praise, London, 1836, to which he contributed nearly one hundred of his own compositions. *********** His successor, Rev. John Hyatt, who subsequently became the co-pastor of the famous Mathew Wilks in Tottenham Court Road, brought the church into closer union with the Independents; a policy followed by Timothy East, for whom the present chapel was built in 1810. ************* Harriett Hyatt m Henry Walter BRADLEY Jun 1875 Islington 1b pg 475 Emily Hyatt m Edward Henry BRAND Sep 1883 Islington 1b 514 1891 census Edward Brand H 30 Cabinet Maker b.
