Elijah Hyatt's Grandfather: *************************** Abraham Hyatt, born in Chappaqua in 1747, received this commission as Second Lieutenant in Company Eight of the Fourth Battalion of the New York State forces on November 21, 1776. The document, signed by founding father John Hancock, President of Congress, is a very early document of Westchester’s role in the American Revolution. The county’s population suffered greatly during the seven years of war, and Hyatt’s service helped to protect local farmers and their families from Cowboys and Skinners—marauders from both the British and American sides during the conflict.
